Using WinFeed Data Manager to maintain your data
A shortcut to the WinFeed Data Manager program will have been installed on your desktop during the installation process. It is located in the EFG Software\WinFeed 3\data folder. This program is used to perform data management functions.
To create a new database
- Select the server to which the database is to be added (the default server name will be displayed).
- Enter a unique name in the New database name field.
- The default data path for the selected server will be displayed under Database files folder. It is recommended that you leave this setting unchanged, but if it is necessary to store the files in a different location, then this setting can be changed.
- Click the Create new database button.
- The name of the new database will be added to the tree on the left.
To make a backup of a database
- Select the database that you want to back up in the tree on the left.
- Select the Backup tab.
- Select the folder where it should store the backup file, and enter a filename for the backup file (default values are given, but these can be changed).
- Click on the Backup button.
The file that has been created can be copied, using Windows Explorer, onto an external hard drive for extra security in the event of a hard-drive becoming unusable. A backup file can also be used to transfer a database from one computer to another. To do this, copy the backup file to the second computer, and Restore onto a new database on the second computer.
To restore a database from a backup file
Restoring a database from a backup file is a process where the existing data in a database is replaced by the data previously saved in the backup file. All existing data in the database will be lost.
- Select the database that you want to replace in the tree on the left.
- Select the Restore tab.
- Select a valid backup file.
- Click on the Restore button.
To delete a database
- Select the database to be deleted in the tree on the left.
- Select the Delete tab, and click on the Delete database button.
